INSPIRED.

You guys must be wondering what finally made me update my blog......the thing is I'm Inspired by someone's post!... So sad that it's no longer To Inspire (sggs edboarders!!) but rather i need others to inspire me....there are too many things going on in my life right now.....too much to be blogged....

I used to enjoy life....and everything that comes with it.....I like wasting time (my favourite past time, no kidding eh)...I like staring blankly into the ceiling with soothing music on the background...I like to chat on msn.....I like playing violin.....I like attending orchestra practices....I like to chat over the phone like nobody's business with my close pals.....I like to spend time with my family and friends...I like to be active...I like to get involved in projects and succeed in them...I like the feeling of achievement...I like going up on stage getting prizes....BUT

ALL of these are the things that i am no longer able to do....maybe I should add a suffix -ed to all the likes above....

Life here in UM is really crazy....or like how my friend Reuben used to say to me "madness"!!! I have tests (mid-sems) every single week from the 2nd week of this semester up till now!..I used to like tests and exams...I looked forward to them but not ever since I came here.....I got so stressed up that i no longer know how to let go and relax.....I get tensed muscles all the time....I am deprived of sleep to the extent I now have permanent dark eye circles....

And all the activities are draining off the little of energy left in me.....I changed from someone who was able to hold important posts, take pressure, committed, multi-task and yet achieve what i desired to a person I no longer knew....I became reclusive....I only want to be in my room (hostel) and do not want to take part in any activities.....I no longer have the confidence to deliver.....as a result, I quitted UM Debate training on the 2nd week here (I got into that because I won the Intercollege Orientation Debate, by luck i guess).....I then quitted Pesta Tanglung UM in my 2nd month here.......What more can i say?

I, being a person who loves to visit new places, gain new experiences didn't join the Chinese Community (CC) trip.....and didn't join most of the meetings and outings....but there are also events which I can't say NO as an answer.....For instance, the recently concluded Entrepreneurship Day.....it's part of my Basic Entrepreneurship course (yeah you read correctly, I'm doing Science...but this is Business....it's a mandatory course for all...even if you're medical student)....

and then Pesta Tanglung CC came along (last night that was).....I was the emcee....I spoke minimal mandarin for two reasons...One, the administrators disallow the usage of mandarin or somehow that's what I was told..I have got my D to write me one Chinese script actually before I was told about that...Two, I'm half a banana who of course can communicate fluently in Mandarin but hello, it's communicative mandarin and not the formal kind needed to host an event ok! I can't even read.....how do you expect me to use all the formal words....but at the end of it, someone showed displeasure by saying this to me "Wahh...ohhh now you can speak mandarin d hoh?" Sarcastic bugger.....I only got one thing to say to this bugger "You're sick and stop making yourself so low and shallow" shame on you for being supposedly a senior!

and I figured...the audience didn't know what "Let's give them another round of applause" means......wow....I'm surprised....I don't want to talk much about this anyways...but I have done my best to accomodate the VERY VERY last minute changes.....and be gone with it....

Next up on my list is two more tests next Thursday...then it's study week already....I have not studied a single bit of anything....aiks....going home on 24th.....then having my finals from 3rd nov to 17th nov......I will be off for home on the 18th....I can't wait to chill out with my secondary school pals...Guys, Good Luck in STPM o!!

I think I ought to change my blogname soon to LIFE...instead of DREAMS...because Dreams no longer exist in my life here.....*a big sigh* and off to bed~~

Biohealth Science

Many people have asked me what is Biohealth Science all about actually...Everyone only knows about medicine, dentistry and pharmacy...hah hah....

This is the excerpt from UM's website :

The purpose of the interdisciplinary program is to produce graduates who have sound knowledge of biological sciences with particular reference to its application to medical and health-related fields. Biohealth Science deals with the scientific basis of health and disease in humans and is currently one of the most rapidly developing areas in biological sciences.

The B.Sc. (Biohealth Science) has been developed for very able students with strong interest and inclination towards health-related disciplines. Students have the opportunity to study fundamental biology in addition to a wide variety of biohealth subjects such as physiology, genetics, microbiology, immunology, pharmacology, biochemistry, neurobiology, histology, health care and DNA recombinant technology.

Entry into the programme is competitive. The programme receives hundreds of applications each year, but accepts only a limited number of students yearly. Selection is based on availability of places and academic merit.

This programme is a major in Biohealth Science. Upon graduation, candidates will be conferred with Bachelor of Science degree.

“It started as a random choice, but led to an enjoyable journey of knowledge. That is what Biohealth Science had offered me for the past years. It is a course which has equipped me with knowledge as well as practical experience in the forever-enchanting field of biology and life. Exposure to histology, physiology, pharmacology, biochemistry, microbiology and genetics makes Biohealth Science one of the most challenging courses.”
Former Student

I personally chose this because I really do have strong interest in medical fields...but i never wanted to be a doctor or a dentist......heh heh.....Organic Chemistry got me becoming scared of Pharmacy....which apparently is said to be harder than medicine or dentistry......

Leaving for KL on 27th....

I mentioned before in another post that 19th of June is D-day!...It's the day I will know my fate....and fate is, I got into Malaysia's Top University...guess what??not the APEX university though....hah hah...it's noneother than the glorious Universiti Malaya.....

I got into the Science faculty.......majoring in Biohealth Science.....Actually yes this was the course i chosen....I chose this over Biomedical Science.....=)....and the best part, it's only a three-year degree....saves a heap lot of time eh...considering the fact that I already saved a year doing Matriculation instead of STPM....

It caught me by surprise that I got UM....I was all the while expecting to get into UKM....not like i think it's better...but more like I applied more courses from UKM than UM.....all the better that i got UM....because I have been wanting to enter....all i can say is....I am lucky!

But, nevertheless life is never perfect. or at least that's what I believe in......I will be in different universities with my D....he will enter into the dentistry faculty of UKM......the least i can say is too bad for us and too sad for us.......we will of course try our utmost best to meet.....(he will be in KL city...whereas I would be in KL-Selangor border).....but I am happy for him that he got what he wanted....although he will be happier if he got UM.......this is the test that we are both ready to take.....

Guess that's all.....I haven't packed...ouch!

Braced, finally.....

I got my braces on Friday, 12th of June.....my first colours being Purple (dark) and Light purplish-blue.......3 days on, I am beginning to feel the abrasions effects....Now, I am protecting my inner lips with dental wax which is minty-flavoured.....and I still can't chew my food....

My food has been taken wholesale into my gastrointestinal tract for 3 whole days! Hopefully there won't be any digestive problems stemming from this or else it will drive me crazy....

So, below I attached the video (recorded on my handphone, NOT by professional)...so don't complain!!...haha....

Conclusion of An Important Chapter

Yes, the title states it all! With the last post on trips I went on during my Matriculation days, it signifies the conclusion of an important chapter of my life. Now, I am ready to embark on a new journey that will bring me to my destiny. Up to this point of my life, everything seemed like a routine everyone goes through : growing up, entering primary school, then secondary....senior prom comes along....friends from the years all separated into different countries, states, colleges and elsewhere....then comes the final step - university.....

Come 19th of June, I will know where my destiny brings me. I leave everything to God's will on which university I would be offered....But, definitely I will be thankful if I get any of my eight choices of courses....so pray for me!....cheerio~
Con't : Trips

13/02/2009 : Gua Kelam - Taman Ular Perlis - Kuala Perlis

JPP (Jawatankuasa Perwakilan Pelajar) or in another words, Students' Council's Biro Fizikal organised this trip and we, from Biro Penerangan dan Perhubungan Luar was invited along...and our trip that day was nevertheless interesting. The snakes did freak me out a bit though, otherwise it was a nice experience.

It took us quite a lot to get to that place for a picture...haha....and it's really slippery.....

This was the bus which took us to our destinations......for one of the last times....

21/02/2009 : Lye Huat Garden
No pictures for this trip as first of all, there are only animals and more animals there. For I am not an animal person, the pictures i snapped were merely for my coursework and nothing worth publishing....haha...and if you wonder why on earth did i visit the place given i am not an animal person.....it's a compulsory trip for ALL biology students in KMK.....as part of our Practical session on Biodiversity...oh, how much I hated this chapter! 100-over pages long....nope, no colourful pictures but merely the characteristics of all the different species, phylum, subphylum, class, order....bla bla.....the only part that i hated in Biology for my second semester.....hah hah...

BANDING!!

yea...so hmm....sorry for all the no-updates done lately.....i will put on hold my posts on trips...but rather...post on another thing that is happening in my life......that is...to have braces fixed.....

So, today I went to the orthodontist.....to replace my fallen off separator (which i love so much because the colour is so nice....) and to be told by the nurse that i can actually fix the molar bands today....so better still.....i negogiate for an earlier appointment (i was given an appointment next week for molar banding and on the 26th for bonding- fixing everything else).......and so i was told if i fix my bands today, i can come back next friday for bonding! yay.....instead of 2 months for the first four appointments.....i am doing it in TWO WEEKS!....XD but that also means paying more within this one month....lol....

My concern is that if i get it fixed on 26th, i probably need to report for university on 27th and should complications arise, it's harder to manage.......so thank goodness she could give me an earlier appointment.....for the doc is fully booked till July.....uh-oh.....lucky me....

BUT......if you know me, I am such a food-lover that I will do anything just to savour my foods.... even with four tooths missing, I could still munch on hard foods....lol....albeit it hurts.....

It's my mom's birthday today and most of it, I am going to have a hard time during our dinner tonight...grrr....and my granny's 80th birthday dinner is this saturday...and so....again...food is going to be hard on me.....PLUS....my family luncheon (because my bro and sis-in-law are back) on Sunday.........FOOD and MORE FOOD......haihhh.....that's all i can do~

Guess what??Yepp....I went to Langkawi (All-sponsored) *wink wink* But the side note is, I almost did not make it for the trip. This was because I have been looking forward to go home (back to Penang) for that weekend after being unable to make it back home for more than a month. And then, there came another bad news. My other 2 chinese gal pals pulled out of the trip at the very last minute (a day before the trip). So, D wasn't very keen on me going being the only girl with 3 other chinese guys (all of whom are my close pals actually). But, I can't resist it because it's my first time to Langkawi and since it's paid for, why not? I'm not going to bore you with my ramblings but rather, the pictures will tell u about my trip. Pictures paint a thousand words, don't they?

5 - 7/02/2009 : Langkawi

To proceed or not? >.<

That's a tired me resting by the well!

Nice decor in the restaurant we had our dinner

L-R : Khang Way, Me, Zhe Yi and Wei Xhine

Pantai Cenang during sunset...pretty...

Ain't this nice???the Oriental Village

L-R: Wei Xhine, Khang Way and Me (in the cable car)

The view from the cable car

That's it! Mountain range in view...

The suspension bridge of Gunung Mat Cincang

See the gluttony in me?...wakakaka Xp

A picture with foreign tourists (ps. the guys insisted!*roll eyes*)

The top station of the cable car stands at 710m above sea level. The view is exemplary, the air is cool and fresh. I'm sure going to make a second trip back there for the cable car. It's cool...we took two rounds of the cable car haha....coz the air was too nice....and the rest of our group were slow....

Gondola

Underwater World Langkawi

A bunch of us posing for a picture at UWL

Penguin : The signature attraction of UWL

What is a trip to UWL without a picture of a fish??hehe...I like the pokey pokey stuff....

I was scared like anything having that parrot on my shoulders, but well, luckily it didn't scratch me or pull my necklace. And, it seemed to be smiling there....=D oh ya, that was in Bird Paradise Langkawi.

It was not just simply a bird park, but it has many other animals too like peacock, monkeys, etc. And it has got beautiful rainforest setting in there, just like in this picture : a waterfall.

Four of us on board the ferry, taking the last picture before each of us dozed off except for that Khang Way who insisted on transfering all the photos from my handphone because he knew I would be too lazy to lend him my phone on any other days. Haha....very smart.....

That's it, Bye bye to Langkawi.

Ps. All pictures were taken by my handphone only. So, don't complain! ;)

More trips to come....

The plus point going to matriculation will be its all-paid for free trips.....Below are photos on such events that i had the chance to enjoy that privilege! XD

13/09/2008 : Buffet dinner at Menara Berputar Alor Setar with my tutorial group, H1P2

This buffet dinner was my tutorial group's initiative of getting everybody together for a meal before separating into new groups for the new semester. There were only 5 chinese in my class, 4 girls and 1 guy...but nevertheless, they are among the nicest chinese friends i met there, especially Khang Way....Way to go, mate!

The four chinese girls, (L-R: Min Zhen, Felicia, Qi Fen & Me)

The view snapped while in the lift of the tower

Menara Berputar Alor Setar

24/09/2008 : Padang Besar - Kuala Perlis trip with H1P4
So, you must be wondering that H1P4 is not my tutorial group.....Actually this trip was not a trip marked in my schedule but rather an eleventh hour one. As this trip was organised by another good friend, Pee Terh....he asked if I would like to tag along since they still have vacant seats in the bus.....there were several others who tagged along too...just like me...haha...but so sad...my D couldn't come along as he had some silly hockey test....hah hah....

The view is so panoramic and peaceful....over at Kuala Perlis....

Another captivating view of the horizon, during sunset.

Me at Kuala Perlis

And, this was the bunch of people who tagged along for the trip!!

More to come....

.Rewind.

hmm....I did Matriculation (one year programme) in Kedah Matriculation College as I have mentioned before....initially, life there was fun.....but soon enough, everything turned sour.....

I would say this is the WORST year of my 18+ years of life....I have never faced so many problems within such a short span of time in my life....Although I studied in an English school (also referred to as a Malay school, whichever it is), I have never come across any major racial discrimination issues. Ironically, I was/am good with most of secondary school teachers....and actually most (yes, most NOT all) of my matriculation lecturers.

Right there, I was not only a victim of racial discrimation (I can't disclose it here due to its sensitivity) but also i was faced by language discrimination. This is basically because most of the chinese there are chinese-educated whereas there were only less than 5 english-educated chinese there i think.....Thus, I'm considered half a banana, who can speak fluent mandarin but NOT understand their culture.

So, what i mean by 'their culture', you may wonder.....Basically, I have no idea why they have to look down on the english-educated ones....so what if you're from whatever so-called best chinese school in Penang? And there comes their selfish bit. They will just do anything in their own interest regardless of the harm implied on others. I have witnessed cases where they badmouthed the other chinese students in front of the lecturer, just to get in charge of a project. Pathetic is what i called that....

Friends, in my own perception, are people who will be there for you when you needed them and that does not mean that you OWN them! But from what i have observed and personally experienced there, this is not the case. Being there for them when they need you is one, and secondly you must always be physically present. And oh yes, having a friend who has a boyfriend/girlfriend appears to be a huge issue although the friend is still willing to be there when you're in trouble. Man, I can't accept that! Moreover, they form gangs (usually girls) and gossip their butts off on their enemies (other gangs)...So childish....

However, I would like to reinstate that NOT ALL chinese-educated students are like that....the guys usually won't go to that extent for they will fight and be friends again....

Next goes the college rules. Their rules can drive anyone up the wall. Among them, no shorts allowed to be worn on college grounds...students are not allowed to be in their rooms from 8am-4pm everyday(except weekends) regardless of whether you have/have no lessons on that day....guys and gals cannot sit one-with-one in the library....jeans are not allowed to be worn when you go for outings...no electrical appliances allowed including electric kettle and extension wires...Curfew of 7pm for outings and students can only go out from Wed and Thurs(after 4pm and be back by 7pm)....Fri and Sat (7am-7pm)....compulsory to attend shitty 'taklimats'...where they crapped most of the times...there are many more...and i don't think i will ever finish....haha....so what do you think??

Going online proved to be another trouble over there. NO wi-fi.....you can plug in your laptop in the tutorial block but msn, facebook, friendster are blocked....and same goes for the computers in the library....and they are down quite often....no idea why...and we can't enter the computer labs as we like..that's why it is a hassle to go online there, what more to blog??...no time for that.....this is just part of my life there....lol....haven't touched on parts lik hygiene, cca and academics!...
M.I.A.

So...it has almost been a year now....actually....in this one year that i have been MIA....I learnt a lot, experienced a heap load, underwent multiple hurdles and last but not least, still surviving till today! haha....I'm sorry for not updating my blog as often as any other bloggers...basically because of the lack of facilities and time.....I shall try my utmost best to picture everything that had taken place in the past year....Hmm....stay tuned!=D
